SONIC FRINGE features:

UNWOUND by Ang Song Ming (Singapore) | Yeoh Yin Pin (Malaysia)

Unwound is a music performance by Ang Song Ming and Yeoh Yin Pin, who seek in this work to explore the expanded vocabulary of the guitar in different ways. The first half of the performance features Ang in a solo laptop improvisation based on pre-recorded guitar samples. The second half consists of a duo improvisation as Ang is joined by Yeoh, who plays ‘prepared’ tabletop guitar. This performance is the two musicians’ second collaboration, after their first meeting in Hong Kong in June 2006.

“A neat exploration of sharp-focus static, crackle and glitch alongside warm, shimmering dubby bursts of disjointed melodic fallout.” - Fat Cat Records, UK, on Ang Song Ming’s “Ashley”,
a track from his debut EP Radial

PANIC MEMBRANES by Charles Atlas (USA)

Panic Membranes is a 50-minute journey through the stitched-together spaces that Charles Atlas has been creating these past seven years, and a preview of future directions, with special attention to the theme of art and (mental) disability. Voiceovers of people speaking calmly about panic and other mental ‘disturbances’ or ‘disorders’ will be incorporated intermittently in the performance. While our listeners often close their eyes and partake of the ensuing eyelid cinema the music evokes – and while we encourage this – this installation of the work will feature static visual projections that augment the sound experience.

“Charles Atlas could and should be huge. […] CA are master handlers of their instruments, evoking such powerful emotions with piano and guitar (and the occasional drum machine); even the casual listener with find something to love.” - The Big Takeover
